Strategic Farm, Gloucestershire – Suckler cow nutrition
November 8, 2018 @ 10:30 am - 1:30 pm
Join us for the next AHDB Beef & Lamb Strategic Farm meeting, hosted by David Barton at Manor Farm in Gloucestershire. Following our summer grassland event, this event will focus on suckler cow nutrition.
Date: 8th November 2018
Time: 10.30am – 1.00pm (includes lunch and farm tour)
Location: Manor Farm, Middle Duntisbourne, Gloucestershire,GL7 7AR
Feed is a major cost of keeping a suckler cow and has a huge impact on fertility, calving ease and calf performance. At AHDB, we have recently funded a study conducted by Alex Corbishley of Edinburgh University that investigated the effect of dry cow nutrition on colostrum quality and passive transfer to the calf. Our network of strategic farms participated in the study and we’ll cover their results at this event.
This event will be an opportunity to learn:
- The principles of suckler cow nutrition, particularly during the dry period
- Rationing and suckler cow requirements at different times of the year
- Managing body condition throughout the year
- Impact of cow nutrition on colostrum quality
It will also be a great opportunity to hear and discuss the changes that David has made to his business over the last year and capture anything that you may be able to apply to your own business.
To attend the meeting you will need to book so please email KE.firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01904 771212 , so we can plan catering accordingly.
