Strategic Farm, Canterbury – suckler cow nutrition

November 7 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm

Join us for the next AHDB Beef & Lamb Strategic Farm meeting, hosted by E.H. Holdstock and son at Elbridge Farm in Canterbury. The focus for this event will be suckler cow nutrition.

Date: 7th November 2018
Time: 10.30am – 1.30 pm (Includes lunch and farm walk)
Location: Higham farm, Stodmarsh Road,Sturry, Canterbury, Kent,CT3 4AS

Feed is a major cost of keeping a suckler cow and has a huge impact on fertility, calving ease and calf performance. At AHDB, we have recently funded a study conducted by Alex Corbishley of Edinburgh University that investigated the effect of dry cow nutrition on colostrum quality and passive transfer to the calf. Our network of strategic farms participated in the study and we will cover their results at this event.

This event will be an opportunity to learn:

  • The principles of suckler cow nutrition, particularly during the dry period
  • Rationing and suckler cow requirements at different times of the year
  • Managing body condition throughout the year
  • Impact of cow nutrition on colostrum quality

It will also be a great opportunity to hear and discuss the changes that the family have made to their business over the last year and capture anything that you may be able to apply to your own business.

To attend the meeting you will need to book so please email KE.events@ahdb.org.uk or call 01904 771212 , so we can plan catering accordingly.
