Maximising profits through the dairy-beef supply chain – Knowle Green

Economic gains are there to be made throughout the dairy – beef supply chain. Making the most of technologies such as genomics and sexed semen when breeding herd replacements allows for the targeted use of high quality beef sires, producing a valuable animal that is well suited for the beef supply chain. Focusing on calf husbandry and feeding will improve health and growth rates, ensuring beef animals hit market specification and are a profitable part of the business.

1:00pm – 2pm – The farm walk is kindly hosted by M&E Forshaw, Little Town farm. The Forshaw’s milk 180 cattle through a robotic system and have a farm shop on site. As well as rearing their own beef calves for the shop, they also buy in Angus cross calves, rearing around 300-500 per year. Ian Cure from LLM farm vets will give us an overview of the farm’s calf rearing system and how this maximises performance.
