What is Challenge Sheep? West Sussex
December 5, 2017 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Didling Farms, Midhurst, West Sussex, GU29 0LQ
By kind permission of Mr. S Grimshaw
Challenge Sheep aims to understand how the rearing phase of replacement ewes impacts lifetime productivity. The project starts October 2017 and will track over 4000 replacements entering thirteen flocks this tupping season with a similar number being tracked on the same farms from tupping 2018 and they will be followed for the next 6 years.
Matthew Blyth runs a flock of 1000 Lleyn and lleyn cross ewes at Didling Farms, Didling Weat Sussex. 210 home produced shearlings are bred each year as replacements. Lambing is indoors from March and lambs are finished on grass.
